Simeon's parents were Samuel Newell Reeves and Melvina Hodges Reeves. Samuel was the son of Ichabod Reeves. There are genealogies online that trace Ichabod's Reeves family back for several centuries in England. Samuel Reeves and Melvina had come from Morgan County Alabama. Apparently, Samuel and Melvina had 10 children; most of them ended up in Texas after the civil war. Simeon was Samuel and Melvina's oldest child and the only Confederate soldier among the Reeves boys. Simeon married Lydia C. Rutherford on October 19, 1865 before they moved to Texas. (information from John Reeves)

Simeon was a private in Company D, 4th Alabama (Russell's) Cavalry organized in Murfreesboro Tennesee, December, 1862. They were engaged at Ft. Donelson, Chickamauga, and others. By the end of the war, this unit was attached to the command of Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest, which explains why Simeon's brother Rufus named his first born son Forrest Judson Reeves. Check this link to find Simeon's name on the Company D roster.
