While Father was teaching at Pea Ridge, he met his future bride---my mother, Alice Dean, daughter of William Barnett Dean (born March 31, 1837 in VA) and Laura Harper Dean (born Dec 8, 1840 in TN). Grandfather Dean served as a Confederate Army officer in the Civil War. The Deans and Grandmother's Harpers family met when their wagon trains joined on their journey westward. They settled in the Pea Ridge community where they lived until about 1886, at which time the Deans moved to Texas. Grandfather was a merchant until the time of his death Jan 13, 1906. His parents were Alfred Dean (born 1808) and Nancy Forsythe Dean (born 1816), my Great Grandparents. The grandfather of William Barnett Dean was Dr. William Barnett Forsythe, my Great, Great Grandfather, who was born in 1780 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He came to the United States in 1800 and was still practicing medicine during the Civil War in the Pea Ridge, AR community. Mother Alice Dean Roberts remembered him as an elderly man with large shaggy white eyebrows. He vaccinated her for smallpox during the War. My Dean ancestor was born about 1760 in England. My Grandmother, Laura Harper Dean, wife of W.B. Dean, died Sept 28, 1922. Their eight known children were:
