Alfred Dean (April 25, 1808 to May 13, 1885) was reared in Franklin County, Tennessee, where he married Nancy Forsythe, the daughter of Dr. William Barnett and Sarah Phillips (Glosson) Forsythe. He and Nancy were married sometime prior to 1833. According to records, their first two children, John Wesley Dean and William Barnett Dean, were born in Franklin County, Tennessee. My paternal great-great-grandfather, Alfred Dean born in Tennessee, 1808 and his wife Nancy Forsythe born in North Carolina, 1816 came to Benton County, Arkansas, before 1840. Alfred's father was born in Maryland and his mother in Tennessee. Nancy's father was Dr. William Barnett Forsythe, born in 1780 in Edinburg, Scotland. Two wagon trains met and joined in their trek westward. Some of the families were Dean, Forsythe, Harper, Carden, and others. They settled in the Pea Ridge community until 1880 when some of the Dean family went to Texas. In Franklin County, Tennessee, an indenture was made March 3, 1834 by Barnett Forsythe to Alfred Dean, his son-in-law: one hundred acres, personal property, five slaves, and other goods. Alfred was Coroner and Deputy Sheriff of Benton County 1864-65. Alfred and Nancy's children were John Wesley, William Barnett, James, Mary, Lewis, Robert, Henry, and Samuel.
