Passenger list for the "Mozart," which brought our great, great, great grandparents, Claus and Janna Von Mark Huisenga, to America, docking at New York, November 9, 1865. (Steve's mother, Janna Hey Dean, is named for Janna Von Mark Huisenga.)

The parents, Claus and Janna Von Mark Huisenga, came to America from Germany, along with their daughters, Gertje and Johanna. The Huisenga's oldest sons, Dirk and Wiboa, also booked passage with their wives and three young children each. Traveling, coincidentally, on the same ship was a young man named Heinrich Janssen. Notice that Heinrich's occupation is "cpr" (cooper). Heinrich was to have been met by an uncle. When the uncle did not show, Heinrich was invited to accompany the family to Illinois.

Changing his name to Johnson, Heinrich became Henry Johnson (age 19) and married Gertje Huisenga (age 22). Henry and Gertje Johnson (our great, great grandparents) became the parents of Zwaantje Johnson, our great grandmother.

Great Grandson Bill Palmer (son of Martha, daughter of Gertje) compiled this sketch of the 8 Claus Huisenga children, their spouses, and children.
