(Now "First United Methodist Church of Forreston")
Forreston, Illinois
Corner of Birch and 1st
Built in 1925 to replace Bishop's Evangelical Church
Holtzman Stained Glass Window (left, or east window)
Johnson Stained Glass Window (center window)

"Fifty-five years ago the former church was erected on the present site. Seven persons were present Sunday who were present when the old church was dedicated. Memorial windows were presented for Rev. J. [L]. Holtzman, a former pastor, and for Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson, former members, by their children, respectively." Forreston Journal, December 2, 1925

The original church (and the one in which Grandpa Holtzman preached) was known as Bishop's Evangelical Church and was replaced by this brick structure.

In 1925, Great Grandma Zwaantje Johnson Holtzman and her daughter, Grandma Ruth Holtzman Hey paid for memorial windows in the new church building. Two plaques are placed under the two sets of windows. Elizabeth is J. L.'s first wife. Johnson's are Zwaantje's parents, deceased in 1921 and 1922, once important members of the congregation.
