Notice the "cut-and-paste" scripture passage covering the outline in the lower right corner. Grandpa Holtzman frequently glued a narrow edge of the passages he wanted to read over a border of his outline. He then pulled back the passage to read his outline underneath. This sermon outline was placed in its own envelope indicating the sermon #(85), the text, the date, and the location of the mission. Click here to view the envelope cover and complete 4 page sermon outline. Notice the notes in German on the first page of his outline. Grandpa preached in 3 languages on Sundays: German, French, and English. Several of Grandpa's sermon outlines are extant. A few of them are written in German. He spoke French because he was born and raised in Canada. His daughter, Grandma Ruth Holtzman Hey, said that the family stopped speaking German and French in the home when she was 4 or 5 years of age; her parents were concerned that she not pick up an accent. |
