What the Heck is A Stitch 'N Bitch?

Basically, it's a bunch of people getting together to do some sort of craft (knit, crochet, cross stitch, etc), and gab while doing it. It's as simple as that, nothing pretentious at all, and at the same time it's continuing an age-old tradition.

Did you know that in the old days, 100 years ago or so, on the weekends, the women would take turns coming to each others houses and doing the mending while dishing out the latest gossip? In some places, people brought their own stuff, and in others, you showed up to do the mending for the house. It must have been awesome to have a band of ladies descend upon your basket of socks that needed darning, and go at it with gusto.

Today, you bring your own stuff.

And you're generally not doing much mending, but rather creating - and boy is there a lot of fun stuff to create with! The benefits of doing this in a group setting are great - not only do you get away from distractions at home, such as phone, computer, etc, but you have a bunch of people whose brains you can pick! And it's not just for women anymore.

Even if you've never knitted in your life, do show up if you have the slightest interest to! Someone always brings extra yarn and extra needles, and is happy to show you how to get started.

What's New?

If you haven't been to an SnB gathering lately, you've missed some great fun including presentations from the Sexual Assault Recovery Recovery Program, sheep farmers and yarn shops, and even an informational demonstration of acupuncture for repetitive motion problems by the Oriental Bodywork & Acupuncture Clinic. You've also missed the excitement of our knit and crochet fashion show, our on-going Mystery Knit-Alongs and Crochet-Alongs, participating as vendors at the Farmer's Market and other venues, Worldwide Knit in Public Day events, International Sox Wars, and much, much more!

Stitch 'N Bitch in Janesville

Stitch 'N' Bitch is a small group of hip stitchers living in Rock Co. and the surrounding area. Every week crafty gals and guys get together for some needle artistry and coffee to boot. Although knitting is featured, all needleworkers are welcome (quilters, crocheters, knitters, needlepointers, etc.).

There are umpteen reasons
to go to a Stitch 'N Bitch:

1. It's cheaper than therapy.
2. Good food, good company and a place to laugh at your first attempt at making a sock.

Although a number of knitting groups have sprung up in Wisconsin in recent years, the Janesville area Stitch 'N Bitch was the first SnB in Wisconsin (beginning in 2003) and it continues to be a thriving and lively group where no stitching problem is too difficult to solve, where no topic of discussion is off limits, and where new friendships continue to grow and flourish.
