The translation of the death notice of Zwaantje Johnson:
"Leer, the 22nd of September 1903. In front of the signing record keeper appeared today, known in person, the master joiner Martin Eimers living in Leer, Kirchstrabe No 27, and notified, that the housewife Zwaantje Janssen, 83 years, 9 months, 19 days old, of Reformed religion, residing in Leer, Steinburgsgang No 9. Born in Bunde, been married to the pensioner Gerhard Janssen. Daughter of the late married couple master smith Jan Adden Gruter and Remda nee Roskamp at Bunde, had passed away in Leer in the above mentioned apartment on the twenty second of September in the year one thousand nine hundred and three at twelve o'clock noon. The informant declared, that he learned of this fact by himself. Read aloud, acknowledged and signed. Martin Eimers Der Standesbeamte/the vital record keeper."
Interestingly, enter their address, "Steinburgsgang No. 9 Leer Germany", in "Google Maps" and you will find the address current.
Thomas, a German who comes in our shop, clarified the following for me: a pensioner is a retired or private person. A master joiner is a carpenter / furniture maker / joiner with a master degree (allowed to run his own business after certain tests are passed) as craftsman. A master smith is a blacksmith with kind of a master degree as craftsman.
