Vegter-Tschetter Heritage

4 Generations: Dean, Art, Jacob, John

(recollections by Jacob Tschetter, continued)

It was in the year 1934 that we moved to Mora (?), Minnesota, in Kennebec County. Here we bought 80 acres of land with some timber, but mostly brush. We cleared land, felled trees, took the logs to the saw mill, and from its lumber, we built a house. We also made some log buildings. We enjoyed the work in the woods and its climate, and its quietness after we withstood the sandstorms of the Dakotas. The Lord blessed us, and we again got, as we say, on our feet again. We had a fine flock of 70 sheep, 8 cows, 10 calves, and a team of horses. Here we organized a Sunday school in the school house. We attended the Baptist church and were blessed with them, yet we preferred to be back with our relatives and old brethren in South Dakota where we were born and raised.
