(recollections by Toby Tschetter, son of Jacob) Toby remembers attracting a crowd in Warner, Minnesota when he was a young boy. He thought he'd light a little fire out behind the haystack. The fire, of course, soon engulfed the big haystack and drew neighbors and siteseers from miles around. Around the turn of the century in 1900, it must have been the 1960's in reverse. Toby's father, Jacob, wanted his hair cut short in order to be in style. Jacob's father surprised him with a haircut while he slept. He awoke to short hair. Some family members rose to prominence. Toby's Uncle, John Tschetter (brother of Jacob) became mayor of Huron. Once when John's mother encountered her son, the mayor, smoking a cigar as he walked on a downtown Huron street, she knocked the cigar out of his mouth, and said, "You think you're a big shot. But you aren't a big shot." Farming gradually gave way to city life. Mayor John Tschetter once told his brother Jacob, Toby's father and finally a resident of Huron that he could not keep his cow in town. Jacob removed the cow. ![]() Violet Tschetter Home, opened by Dr. John in honor of his wife |
