Thanksgiving 1969 at Our House
Tradition dictated that mother invite her aunts and uncles for Thanksgiving dinner. It was quite interesting to listen to the them talk, especially Uncle Henry, a good conversationalist. His eyelids drooped, so it was fascinating to a kid to observe the Scotch tape he used to hold them up. (Steve's recollections)

Some of mother's recollections about the aunts and uncles: Uncle Henry enjoyed showing young people through Hey Bros. Dixon. I think he probably did that for you also. I took Aunt Mary to town every Wednesday so she could pay bills, etc. Later, I took her, but she sat in the car while I paid them for her. Then we would often stop and visit Uncle Clement and Aunt Vinnie. In November 1971, I was preparing for their visit on Thanksgiving and did not go to town. Margaret called me at noon to ask about Aunt Mary so I went to check on her. She had fallen and broken her hip. She passed away the next May, 1972. One year when Uncle Clement was in Florida, a neighbor called to say the basement window of their house was broken. Dad & I went to check on it; nothing seemed to be out of place or missing. We had the window replaced. When they returned from Florida, they found certain papers had been stolen, which later turned up in Sioux City, Iowa. All of it was a bit of a mystery.
