Dean-Hey Heritage

Dad bought our first pony, Myrtle, from Mr. Wolber.
Steve on one-eyed Myrtle.
Grandpa and Grandma Hey watching.

Steve driving. Jerry and Mike riding. Myrtle pulled us around home and through city streets. Once on a neighborhood cart ride, a kid playing in a yard pulled a pistol and "shot us." He was shocked when dad pulled his pistol and "shot back." We had been playing "cops and robbers." (A different world!)

Myrtle died. Dad bought Candy from Calvin Simpson.
Mike on Candy who was young and fast.

Mike with Candy's colt, Peanuts.
On first showing, Candy paraded Peanuts all around the fence line. So proud. Several neighbors came out to watch.

Dad built Martin house in background. Perpetual battle with sparrows for housing. With Dad's vigilance, Martins usually won. Sat out summer nights and watched Martins swoop and feed on insects. Great entertainment.
