Cloyd Myers was an acclaimed band director. All 3 boys played under him in junior high. When Steve was in 8th grade, Mr. Myers was excited (exceptional for Mr. Myers) in announcing that he'd been invited to to bring his band to the Mid-East Instrumental Music Conference, at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So we sold candy bars, boarded 3 buses, made a 3-day trip, and played a concert. The hotel had 17 floors, and it was great fun to race the 17 flights. In that day, the event was a proud moment for Sterling.
