Dad often told that "mom was the only girl that ever made him jealous." Dad had roller skated with many other girls who then paired off with other guys. But after mom skated with dad and proceeded to pair off with another guy, that made dad jealous. And that was the end of mom's skating with any other guy! After Mom and Dad were married, Mom worked at a hospital on base and delivered food to patients. (recollections by Violet Vegter)

"Dad had a pretty impressive "wing span!" At this age Uncle Toby, much like Grandpa Tschetter, was a light-weight. One of Dad's favorite stories was the informal, friendly wrestling match between him and Uncle Toby. It is easy to see why Dad came out on top; Uncle Toby came out from under with a broken arm. This may have spurred Uncle Toby's weight lifting ambitions. From somewhere in his 30's throughout the rest of his life, he had an impressive, muscular physique."
