Short break from "cops and robbers"
Piano lessons were required at our house. Grandma Hey generously gave her time and skills week after week for years to boys who were sometimes less than willing and often not so thankful for all the attention. Piano, of course, distracted from more important pursuits—mainly play. Grandma was so generous that she paid for private lessons and drove Steve every other week during his senior year to Professor Johnson at Rockford College. Later, we were given instruments and lessons: Jerry and Steve on the trombone, Mike on the trumpet. Mike went on to earn a piano major in college. Mike and Jerry play piano for their churches, and Mike plays organ.
