(recollections by Jacob Tschetter, continued)
In the spring of 1939, we came back to South Dakota where we farmed 2 years, and in the fall of 1941 we moved to the City, Huron where we now live. We worked carpentry work, built 2 houses, etc.... I have been yardmaster, fireman, and [custodian] at the Huron College [for 17 years] since 1951. I retired August 1, 1961. Mother, after 18 years' work at the Armor packing plant also retired. In 1962 we built a new house on lot 4 & 5 where we live now. Occasionally, we visit our children: Violet at Delavan, Wisconsin, Toby at Janesville, Wisconsin, Doris at Pierre, South Dakota, and Arthur at Lincoln, Nebraska. Only Viola is with us. We have 20 grandchildren, all well, healthy, and bright. We are thankful to God who has sustained, kept, and supplied us with goodness physically, materially, and spiritually. In the summer of 1964, we built us a new house on Lot 3 & 4, Block 6 where we already had built residences and where we live now. We operate a big garden, where we raise apples, plums, grapes, etc., and garden vegetables, and take care of our apartment houses. 3 years ago, On Friday, February 14, 1964, I had a serious operation when half of my stomach was taken away. The operation was successful. I nicely recovered.
