JOSHUA STAHL, OBITUARY Joshua Stahl died at the age of 60 years on his farm 10 miles north and 3 miles west of Yale, SD on October 8, 1925. Joshua was the son of Paul and Catherine (Hofer) Stahl. Joshua immigated to the United States on "THE MOSEL" with his mother, Catherine Hofer Stahl, his stepdad Johann Wipf, his brother Johannes 17, and his sister Sarah 15 a month and one half before his 14 years birthday in 1879. He arrived in New York om July 21, 1879. In 1884, when he was 19 years old he married Barbara Tschetter in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. They farmed in Hutchnson Country until 1901 at which time he and his wife, Barbara, move their family of 5 children to Beadle County, South Dakota where they continued to farm. Their last child, Joshua B. was born in 1903. Joshua farmed for 24 years in Beadle County until his death. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Stahl, two sons: Paul J. and Joshua B.: and four daughters, Justina, Lydia, Katherine, and Anna. Funeral services were held at Bethel Church. Interment was made in the Bethel Cemetery. |

BARBARA STAHL, OBITUARY MRS. BARBARA STAHL, AGED 75, IS TAKEN Mrs. Barbara Stahl, 73 years of age, died after a long illness at her home, 10 miles north and three miles west of Yale, SD last evening. Mrs. Barbara (Tschetter) Stahl was born in Neu Hutterthal, Ukraine, South Russia, October 8, 1865. She came to the United States with her parents when she was one month short of her 10th birthday. She arrived in New York on "THE MAIN" on September 4, 1875. She first lived with her parents in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. In 1901 she and her husband, Joshua Stahl, moved to Beadle County, SD to farm where they have since resided. She is survived by four daughters and one son: Mrs. Jacob A Tschetter (Kate), Mrs. Paul F. Walter (Justina), Mrs. David H. Fast (Lydia) of Huron, SD: Mrs. Andrew A. Hofer (Anna), Carpenter, SD; Joshua B. Stahl, Yale, SD. Also surviving are three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Jacob Goosen (Anna), Bethel, MN, Mrs. Jacob Fast (Maria), Huron, SD: Susanna D. Tschetter, who lived at the Stahl home: David Tschetter, Huron, SD, and Joe D. Tschetter, Freeman, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joshua Stahl, who died October 8, 1925 a daughter, Maria who died in 1891, and a son, Paul J. Stahl who died in 1929, and a granddaughter, Mary Stahl who died July 9, 1924. Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Church at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon with the Rev. J.M. Tschetter officiating. Interment will be made in the Bethel Cemetery. |
