Jan's mom sewed a sail, and her dad attached a frame to the canoe, so they could sail across the lake. Without a keel, they had to paddle back. Jan had bought the canoe soon after the war. It was one of the first products except for airplanes that Grumman Aircraft was allowed to produce since the war had begun.
