First grade picture taken in yard on east side of Central School. The Rock in the background commemorates Abraham Lincoln's 1856 speech from the front porch of the home across the street. (No fence around the Rock—we knew to stay off of it. Today it is fenced in.)

Quite spread out, our old high school was on 5th Avenue between 4th & 5th Streets. Drafting & Ag in a house to the west. Home Ec—house to the south. Art/Speech—old church across the street. For Boys' P.E., the fellows had to run down to the Coliseum on Third Ave & Third Street. We had between 600-700 students. My graduating class was 108.

Jan's Dog, Laddie
with sister Susan

Laddie was a springer spaniel that I bought for $3.00. He was a puppy in the window of a sporting goods store and I spent my own money for him. Phil's dog "Tiny" is just behind Laddie. Phil paid 50 cents for him. Later Sue got Tippie from a friend—no charge.
