Jacob Hey History
Jacob Hey, Sr., came to the USA in April, 1836, arriving in New York City, June 1, 1836 on the Ship Charlemagne. [He lived in] New York City, later moving to Poughkeepsie, New York where he married Christina Volk in 1843. To this union with Christina were born three children, Jacob Jr. (born August 1, 1845), Mary Elizabeth, and a younger child. In 1851, Jacob came west with his family and purchased a farm near Milwaukee, but before moving onto the farm, his first wife and youngest child died.

Jacob had a son by his first wife, Christina, who was also called Jacob and fought in the Civil War. Later, Jacob Hey, Jr. moved to Overbrook, Kansas because he was given 80 acres for service in the Civil War. Jacob attended his father Jacob Hey's funeral in 1898.

Jacob Hey, Jr. married Martha Jane "Jennie" Andrews (born October 28, 1847 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio) on April 4, 1866 in Clinton, Iowa. Their first child, Mary Della Hey, was born March 12, 1867 in Whiteside County, Illinois. This demonstrates that Jacob Hey, Jr. had moved near his father, Jacob Hey, Sr. The rest of their children were born on their farm southwest of Oberbrook, Kansas.

Jacob Hey, Jr. mustered out of the Civil War with $450, married Martha Jane Andrews, and moved to Overbrook, Kansas, where he homesteaded 80 acres. Later, he bought more land 4 miels southwest of Overbrook, Osage County, Kansas. They lived in a two room log house until they built a new house prior to 1884.

Jacob married Rosamond Lillian Frazier soon after the death of his first wife, Martha Jane Andrews, because he needed someone to care for Maud Anna Hey, just over 1 year old. William Hey conveyed to his daughter Wilma that he did not like his stepmother because when Maud Anna Hey was a toddler and had done something wrong, Rosamond pulled her ear or poked her with a needle. William Hey was offended and hit Rosamond. (After marrying Hattie May Miller Hey in Victor, Colorado, on October 2, 1901, William and Hattie went to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania so William could work at a steel plant.)
