At this time Richard married a twice-divorced Stella Ritchey. Stella and her daughter, Alla Maurie, resided with Stella's parents, Tom and Sally Ritchey who were well respected people of the community. Stella was employed as secretary for a local milling company, and there she met Richard H. Dean. According to the Marriage Records of Benton County, Arkansas, Richard and Stella were married by Reverend C. M. Myrick of Clark County, Arkansas. The Benton County marriage records indicate 37 year old Stella Jane (Ritchey, Fetter, Griffin) married 49 year old Richard Hulan Dean. After their marriage, Richard and Stella resided in Siloam Springs and were recorded as the parents of two known children. Thomas Wesley "Tom" Dean born February 9, 1920 and Janey Hugh Dean born March 25, 1921.
According to several Dean family members, little Thomas Wesley was born with an obstructed colon and survived only four days. Little Tom was buried in the Dean-Ritchey family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
Prior to 1934, Richard's wife, Stella Jane Dean contracted cancer. After suffering several years from the effects of the disease Stella died at the age of 53 on Thursday, July 12, 1934, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Stella Jane was buried in lot 26, block 14, in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Siloam Springs. Arkansas. Stella's grave is located in the Dean-Ritchey family plot next to the grave of her infant son, Thomas Wesley Dean and the graves of her parents, Tom and Sally Ritchey.(Richard Hulan Dean family history, Milton Forsythe)
