![]() Elizabeth & Jacob Holtzman Photographer: Colditz, Cabinet, Rochelle, Illinois Inscription on back of photo: Rev. & Ellie Holtzman Given to me the 30 of May when I helped Mrs. ??? her new carpet and put it down. Mr. stretched and I tacked. "Elizabeth Bechtel Holtzman born November 26, 1849 at Blenheim" (from Holtzman family Bible). "Jacob L. Holtzman of Carrick, Ontario and Elizabeth Bechtel of Carrick, Ontario married on the 20th day of April, 1869 in the presence of Herman Weber and Jacob Bechtel. John Eisenmenger, pastor of Baptist Church, Hanover, Ontario." (from Holtzman family Bible) Grandpa Holtzman's first wife died in 1897 in Foreston, Illinois. There he met Zwaantje Johnson, a member of his mission, whom he married on March 7, 1904, in Sterling. Aunt Christine loved to bake and loved children, who frequently stopped to see her when they (Christine and husband Rufus) lived in Coleta. The children's visits were often rewarded with cookies. She was a very caring person, taking care of her sister Sue as she was dying of cancer. And then she cared for Sue's husband in his final years." (recollection by Janna Hey Dean) |
