Hey Brothers Newspaper Ad

A salesman who had stopped by Hey Brothers on his return trip to Iowa wrote the following in his newspaper column:

"On my return trip I stopped in at Hey Brothers, Sterling, Ill., and Abe Hey wanted to know what state in the Union was the greatest dairy state. After advising him, he told me I was all wet and that it was Nevada because the cream of society goes there to be separated."

(Hint: He was "ABE.")

Shortly after Grandpa had his heart attack in the early 1950's, Uncle Clement wanted to retire. He sold the Sterling dairy to employees who renamed it "Green Meadows Dairy." It lasted about 6 years. A gifted and insightful businessman, Uncle Henry's son Jim took over the Dixon ice cream plant, modernized, and greatly expanded it. Both Grandpa (as a bookkeeper on Monday's) and Uncle Henry helped at the Dixon plant for several years.
