Hey Brothers Ice Cream Company,
Dixon, Illinois

Uncle Henry moved to Dixon to oversee this operation. Grandpa worked there on Mondays. How we looked forward to Monday evenings. Grandpa stopped at our house on the way home with the weekly drop of ice cream, ice cream bars, and fudgesicles! Since we were strictly prohibited from much "junk food" (candy bars, soda, and chips), it was years later when it dawned on me that ice cream was not a health food, somewhat on the order of fruits and vegetables! Really!

When I moved to Janesville, Wisconsin in 1972, we could buy Hey Brothers ice cream at four different locations, one of which was Woodman's, the huge grocery store. But the plant sits empty now, a shell of its former pride.
