Dean-Hey Heritage

Henry (my 2 Great Grandfather) emigrated to America, leaving from the port Havre in France, and arriving at Castle Garden in New York, aboard the ship Normandie on April 16, 1834. His record lists his occupation as a farmer and notes that he paid his own fare. You can see his record as a 17 year old immigrant. His mother, Madelaine Sturm Holtzman, also immigrated. She is buried at Berlett's Corner Lutheran Cemetery, Wilmot Township, Ontario. She was 73 years, 5 months, and 19 days.

Early Family History
from son Jacob Holtzman's memoir

"I Jacob Holtzman was born near Phillipsburg, Waterloo County, Willmot township, west Ontario, Canada on March 7th 1851. I lived with my parents at Phillipsburg from where my father went out to preach. My parents were Henry Holtzman and my mother's name was Christina Leuhard before she was married. Father and mother were both born in Germany (Elsas). From Phillipsburg we moved to Seberingsville. And as near as I can remember from Seberingsville to St. Jacobs." (from eleven page memoir of J.L. Holtzman, son of Henry & Christina Holtzman)
