I love literature. I love to teach literature. One of my strong influences was Grandpa who introduced me to many classics. Grandpa often quoted these lines from the "Song of Hiawatha."
By the shores of Gitche Gumee,
By the shining Big-Sea-Water,
Stood the wigwam of Nokomis...
I read the entire epic to my own children after supper a few years ago. I found it rich and meaningful. Thanks, Grandpa! Grandpa also loved "Crossing the Bar."
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea...
For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face-to-face
When I have cross'd the bar.
Just this morning, I sent "Crossing the Bar" to a friend whose father passed along. Grandpa, Thanks! Grandpa, I hope to see you and your Pilot when I have crossed the bar.
