Dean-Hey Heritage

Misty
1959 Christmas gift from Grandpa Dean

Misty of Chincoteague

I used to read this book over, and over, and over. I imagined and reimagined the wonderful scenes. Grandpa Dean had sent this book to us boys along with a pair of green socks for Dad. Mom thinks this is the only package he ever sent. And she says he didn't write much.

We didn't have a TV and didn't go to movies, so I had no way of knowing that the book became a major motion picture, Misty of Chincoteague. There's even a Misty of Chincoteague Foundation.

Read the reviews of Misty on Amazon to note that I was far from the only child spellbound in that era by this book.

Thanks, Grandpa Dean. And why did you settle on this book? Random? Because you farmed with horses and were drawn to a horse story? You just thought boys might like a horse story? In this case, conjecture is as fond as knowing. I only met you a few times and never really knew you, but I recall you gratefully through this treasured book.
