Mom always invited lots of people over. Everyone welcome. Don't know how she did it, but even after a family of 13, always food for everyone. And always room for one more.

Family at North Walworth
Where we lived from 1954-1963

Jerry and John used to build tunnels in the hay in the barn. Dad would fall through the hay into tunnels and get so mad. (Kathy)

Dianna at North Walworth, March, 1957

How we enjoyed picking mulberries from the trees out back. In the field to the rear of the house (visible in photo), dad grew hay. He didn't bail it; rather, he'd stack it loose and high on the pickup. How fun to ride to the barn on top of that stack. Further yet, away from the house, he'd grow oats. (Linda's recollection)

Billy with Gun Tricks by Jerry & John

The picture is of brother Bill, taken by me (Jerry) with his second hand "box camera" on the North Walworth farm. Anxious to use up the 12 picture film, we would create situations which, at the time we thought cute and clever. Somebody (?) had the bright idea of aiming the B-B gun with the barrel resting on the shoulder and the butt-end toward the guy behind the camera. It looks like the Jersey cow was safe if Bill had pushed the twigger. We were not given instructions on gun safety nor was common sense part of our childhood years.

The Jersey cow was our butter for mom's homemade bread. There was always plenty of cream available for us to churn and whatever else cream was good on.

The black bull got lose one day and ended up in the front yard of a neighbor about 1/2 mile away. The irate neighbor called our home and complained that the bull would not allow him out of the house. Dad went right over. When he arrived, the bull faced dad with his head down, making it plain that he liked right were he was. Dad kicked him in the nose and drove him home.

Jerry found this entry from a JoAnn Page about mom.

Jerry identifies JoAnn: "From our place, you remember which way to the N. Walworth grade school..go the opposite direction, West, and they were just over the first hill on the left side of the road (south.) They lived in an old frame house. The farmer, who owned the land and lived on the other side of the driveway, had a dog that enjoyed chasing little boys on bikes! Across the road and bordering our land, the farmer usually planted corn which, after he had machine picked, Dad, John and I would take the tractor and wagon and pick the corn that was left behind on the fallen stalks. We enjoyed driving the tractor. Dad, being the careful, cautious soul, would often put the tractor in low gear, jump off, and all three of us would be tossing corn into the wagon."
