Our House on Theater Road,
East Delavan

Dad needed me to drive him to town, so I had to drive the stick shift, but I didn't know how. "Drive, I'll show you." I jerked the car quite a ways down the road. Dad roared with laughter. (Linda's recollection)

Rick, Linda
Legendary Porch

Notice our porch: Dad was legendary for running off suitors. Darrell Unrau had come to see me, and we were sitting on the porch swing at night when mom called, "Linda, time to come in." I didn't move. She called again, "Time to come in." Next we heard heavy footsteps in the house followed by mom's scream, "Hank, don't hurt him." Darrel vaulted from the porch, ran to his car, and zoomed out the drive, spraying gravel. We never saw him again. But Rick passed muster with Dad.
