Dad got a new job in Midland with the Texas-New Mexico Pipeline Co. Dad said, "Never had a suit and tie before going to work in the office there."
The photo of Dad going to Midland was probably 1949. Dad graduated from Merkel High in 1947 and went to Draughn's Business School in Abilene at his father's insistence. Stayed long enough to do well in typing, shorthand and accounting. (Important because it saved him from active duty in the Korean War as he processed men out of his Naval Reserve unit for active duty.) In Midland, Dad also ran a Dairy Queen on evenings and weekends. But he missed home and family and returned to Merkel to work in a lumber yard, which was where he worked when I met him March 25, 1950. (recollections by Jan Hey Dean)
