Eastern History Tour, 1969
During Spring break, 1969, Mom and Dad took us to visit several historical and political sites in the East. We visited Gettysburg, of course, but Eisenhower's home was closed because he'd just passed away. At Valley Forge, we saw the soldiers' huts and Washington's headquarters. The Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Philadelphia, of course. Besides seeing the Constellation in Baltimore, we boys enjoyed our trip favorite, Fort McHenry. Although we saw Ford's Theater and the National Archives, we could not visit the Capitol or the White House. All tours cancelled on account of Eisenhower's death.
